Hamstead Station - A railway station in Birmingham!

Hamstead Station serves the Hamstead, Great Barr and Handsworth Wood areas of north Birmingham on the Chase Line towards Walsall. Originally opened back in 1837. It is close to the River Tame.

Where is Hamstead Station?

Hamstead Station is on Old Walsall Road, Perry Barr, Birmingham, B42 1NJ

In brief

The Grand Junction Railway opened a station at Hamstead in 1837. It was named Hamstead and Great Barr. It was renamed to Great Barr by the London and North Western Railway in 1875 (the successor to GJR). The station is on the Chase Line between Birmingham New Street and Walsall. South of the station, the Soho loop bypasses Perry Barr via Soho. The line through the station was electrified in 1966. The station was renamed to Hamstead in 1974. Occasionally when the nearby River Tame overflows during a storm, the station gets flooded. There is two trains an hour in both directions on the Walsall to Wolverhampton via Birmingham New Street Line.
