Where is Stechford Station?
Stechford Station is on Victoria Road just off Station Road, Stechford, Birmingham B33 8AY
In brief
The London & Birmingham Railway opened the original station at Stechford in 1844. It used to have a level crossing, but this was replaced by the Station Road bridge in 1882. The old station buildings were demolished in 1963, and replaced by a small replacement on Frederick Road. For decades there used to be a concrete footbridge, and access from the ticket office on Victoria Road. But a new footbridge with lifts was built from 2019 and was opened by 2020. There is two trains an hour from Monday to Saturday, with an hourly service on Sunday's. Semi-fast trains from London Northwestern Railway now stop here, while other operators such as Cross Country and Avanti West Coast pass at high speed between Birmingham New Street and other destinations.

The footbridge
The 1960s concrete footbridge was still in use until 2018-19, but was not very useful for disabled people, with wheelchairs or pushchairs.

By the end of 2019, construction of a new footbridge on the site of the old one was well underway. This included a pair of lift shafts on both island platforms, while a temporary footbridge was in place.

By the summer of 2020 (after the first lockdown) the new footbridge with lifts was open. They also built an access ramp to the footbridge from the ticket office, so if you arrive in a wheelchair, you can get the lift straight down to one of the island platforms.
