Shirley Station - A Solihull & West Midlands Gem!

Shirley Station opened on what is now the Shakespeare Line in 1908. It used to be the terminus for trains not going further to Stratford-upon-Avon until 2010.

Where is Shirley Station?

Shirley Station is on Haslucks Green Road, Shirley, Solihull, B90 2NE. On the Shakespeare Line between Yardley Wood and Whitlocks End.

In brief

Shirley was opened by the Great Western Railway in 1908 on what was the North Warwickshire Line. It used to have a goods yard until 1968. Shirley was the terminus for Birmingham commuter services that did not run to Stratford-upon-Avon until 2010 (the terminus was extended to Whitlocks End). A 1907 signalbox on the Stratford-upon-Avon bound platform was demolished in 2010. The passenger footbridge was replaced in 2014, and the Haslucks Green Road bridge was replaced in 2017.

The old footbridge seen from the old Haslucks Green Road bridge in 2010. Between 2007 and 2017 the franchise operator was London Midland. They would replace the old Class 150's by 2011.
