Lye Station is near Stourbridge in the Metropolitan Borough of Dudley. It was opened in 1863, and is between Stourbridge Junction and Birmingham Snow Hill.

In brief

The Stourbridge Railway opened a station at Lye in 1863 on their line between Stourbridge Junction and Old Hill. The line was later taken over by the Great Western Railway who joined it to their line into Birmingham. Lye has the joint shortest name in the UK. Trains are every half an hour Monday to Saturday, and hourly on Sundays.

Lye Station - history and details

The Stourbridge Railway opened a station at Lye on their line from Stourbridge Junction to Old Hill in 1863.

The line was later taken over by the Great Western Railway who merged it into their line into Birmingham Snow Hill.

The ticket office is no longer open, but their is a ticket machine (if it's working). Alternatively you can now use the West Midlands Railway app to book QR code- E-tickets.

Typically between Monday and Saturday there is trains every half an hour on both sides, with an hourly service on Sunday's.

London Midland operated the station between 2007 and 2017, it is now in the hands of their successor West Midlands Railway.

The station is accessed via the ramps to the Dudley Road, the station also has a passenger footbridge at the other end.

There was a convoy of London Midland trains with a Class 172, a Class 150 and a pair of Class 170's with London Midland 170635 at the front and 170631 at the back. Running empty.
