Kings Norton Station - A Birmingham Gem!

Kings Norton Station is on the Cross City Line near Cotteridge. Only platform 1 and 4 in use. The Camp Hill Line joins near the station. The station originally opened in 1849.

Where is Kings Norton Station?

Kings Norton Station is on Pershore Road South, Cotteridge, Birmingham, B30 2EG

In brief

A station at Kings Norton was opened by the Birmingham and Gloucester Railway to Curzon Street Station via the Camp Hill Line in 1849. The platform's were extended in 1892 on the extension of the Midland Railway's Birmingham West Suburban Railway to Birmingham New Street. Stations on the Camp Hill Line closed during the Second World War in 1941. British Rail rebuilt the station in 1978 ahead of the opening of the Cross City Line. The line through the station was electrified in 1993. These days only platforms 1 and 4 are in use with Class 323 Electric Multiple Units. Services Monday to Saturday every 10 minutes, 15 minutes in the evening and half hourly on Sunday's.

First footbridge

The main footbridge gives passengers access to platforms 1 and 4. Access to the island platform 2 & 3 is sealed off, and has been out of use for decades. But if new stations get built on the Camp Hill Line, perhaps this unused platform can come back into service?

Second footbridge

There is two footbridges at Kings Norton Station. The first is close to the station entrance, the second is near Station Road. There is a street art mural running on both sides of the bridge.

Class 323's

Trains on the Cross City Line, until at least the new Class 730's come into service, are the Class 323's. In recent years West Midlands Railway has refurbished them. Some go all the way from Redditch via Birmingham New Street to Lichfield Trent Valley, others used to start at Longbridge, others terminate at Four Oaks. Since 2018, trains terminating trains at Longbridge now continue to Bromsgrove, since electrification was completed. Platform 1 for trains to Birmingham, Sutton Coldfield and Lichfield. Platform 4 for trains to Longbridge, Redditch or Bromsgrove.
