In brief

The former London and North Western Railway opened a station at Gravelly Hill back in 1862, on their railway line between Birmingham and Sutton Coldfield. The only remaining feature is the booking office building which has 2 storeys, with the ticket office at the upper level. It became part of the Cross City Line in 1978, and the line through it was electrified in 1992. The waiting areas were replaced with bus shelter type structures on each platform. There is also a metal footbridge. There is 6 trains an hour during Monday to Saturday, with a half hourly service each way on Sunday's. The station is close to the Gravelly Hill Interchange (Spaghetti Junction) and the M6 motorway, which you will pass under coming to or from the Aston direction. The Cross City line uses Class 323 Electric Multiple Units.

Booking Office Building

The red brick booking office building is a remarkable survival on the Cross City Line. Since everything else at the station was rebuilt since the line was electrified in the 1990s.

Get off the Cross City Line at Gravelly Hill for a walk to and then under Spaghetti Junction. There should be pedestrian subways at Salford Circus.
